Please note: It is now mandatory for any person who operates a chainsaw on the Horseshoe Scout Reservation to have successfully completed the Chainsaw Safety Training Program as per the Boy Scouts of America and the Chester County Council.

Session class sizes are limited.
Pre-registration is required.

Start Time: 9 a.m.
Location: HSR Training Facility – Magua Lodge (House on the left prior to going down into Camp Ware)
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be in good physical condition
Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America

Program cost: Free
Course Length: Approximately 3 – 4 hours (depending on class size)

The HSR program will incorporate safe chainsaw operation and tree felling procedures as outlined by the U.S. Forest Service and the BSA National Camp School Ranger section. The next course will be offered Saturday, April 1, 2017.

Wood Badge - The Mountaintop of Scout Training! 

Course N6-524-17 will be hosted in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Dutch Council and Chester County Council. For more details and to register, click here.

Participants must attend both full, three-day weekends

Weekend 1: March 31 – April 2, 2017 (Friday-Sunday) – Bashore Scout Reservation,  AND

Weekend 2: April 29 – May 1, 2017 (Saturday-Monday) – J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation

Wood Badge is a premier adult leadership-training course for the Boy Scouts of America. Wood Badge was originally presented by the founder of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell, in 1919 as a means of strengthening the Scouting movement throughout the world.

The Wood Badge of today teaches contemporary leadership and team development skills in the outdoor setting of Scouting. Aside from teaching new skills, the experience also strengthens Scouting in our units, our districts, and our councils.

ILST/C - Intro to Leadership Skills for Troops and Crews
Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 at Camp Ware

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops and Crews

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops/Crews (ILST/ILSC) is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Boy Scouts and Venturers. Completion of ILST/ILSC is a prerequisite for Boy Scouts and Venturers to participate in NYLT and NAYLE.

Scouts are asked to be in Class "A" uniforms and bring a bag lunch.

Cost is $10 per person. Click here to register.

2017 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
May 5-7 & May 12-14 2017

NYLT is a youth-led conference that focuses on providing youth leaders the skills to run successful youth-led units.  The NYLT skills are also lifelong leadership skills that will distinguish participants from their peers. The event fee includes meals and materials for the event. The course is designed for youth that are 13 years of age and older or have completed the 7th grade.  Scouts must be First Class or above in rank. Click here to Register for NYLT.

WHEN: This event includes 2 weekends 5/5 - 5/7 and 5/12 - 5/14

WHERE: Camp John H. Ware III
              
Arrival on Friday each weekend is by 5:30 pm. (Please eat before arrival.)
Departure is at 3 pm on Sunday.

NOTE:   Registrations can not be accepted for participants who cannot attend the full, two weekend session.

All participants must complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops/Crews (ILST/C). It is recommended that all troops offer this program as a unit activity. A day course will be offered on 4/22 at Camp Ware. Click Here to Register for ILST/C.

     Patrick McDonnell, Acting Secretary of the PA Department of Environmental Protection, will be the keynote speaker for this event. Mr. McDonnell has spent 13 years with the DEP, most recently as the director of policy, where he oversaw the agency's regulation and policy development processes. In addition, he also ran the State Energy Office and was charged with coordination of renewable energy and energy efficiency issues.
