2017 Saint George Award Recipient - Father Michael J. Fitzpatrick

Father Fitzpatrick, Pastor from St. Peter Catholic Church in Coatesville, is this year’s recipient of the Saint George Award. This prestigious honor is used to recognize individuals in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for their significant contributions and many years of support for the Catholic Youth Ministry at the local level in the Boy Scouts.

All Catholic Scouts are invited to attend mass together at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul in Philadelphia. All Catholic Religious emblems earned this year will be presented during this mass. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to join with scout families from the entire Philadelphia Archdiocese for this special event!

For more information about this event, please visit http://www.phillycatholicscouting.org/

Please arrive at the mass by 10:30am to check in. We ask that at least one leader sit in the pews with Cub Scouts. Have a leader pick up emblems (if pre-ordered) for boys not able to attend after the ceremony in the front left side of the basilica. If emblems are not picked up, please make arrangements with Frank McAdams (contact info below) to get them.

Roman Catholic Religious Awards

The Chester County Catholic Committee on Scouting would like to remind all Catholic Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts that now is the time to begin preparing for their work on the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Alteri Dei and Pope Pius XII Religious Awards. The materials needed are available from Chester County Council’s Trading Post. The work required for Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei is completed with parent supervision. The Ad Alteri Dei and Pope Pius XII work is completed as a small group, with a facilitator. It is important to contact a facilitator now, to schedule the time required to complete the requirements beginning in the Fall. Ideally, all requirements will be completed by December and arrangements can then be made for Scouts and parents to attend the Philadelphia Archdiocese Scout Mass in February at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul where they will receive their awards. Scouts receiving the Light of Christ will receive their awards at the Scout Sunday Mass celebrated at their Parish.

  • Light of Christ is for 6-7 year old Cub Scouts.
  • Parvuli Dei is for 8-9 year old Cub Scouts.
  • Ad Alteri Dei is for any youth in a Troop or Crew. They must have completed 6th Grade
  • Pope Pius XII is for Venture Crew Members and Boy Scouts 15 years old and older. They must have completed 8th Grade.
